Lawn Installation

The key to having a great lawn long term is the preparation work that goes on before any grass is installed. Based on your soil type we will make recommendations for soil amendments and the right preparation process for a great lawn long term. Many blends of seed are available, but we use only the best from a local supplier. We will pick the right seed blend for your yard and the light conditions. Such as full sun, part sun, high traffic or erosion control. Combine the right seed with premium mulch and starter fertilizer, and you are sure to have one of the best lawns in the neighborhood. Lawns are typically seeded from Mid March through Mid October.

Another option for grass is sod. The advantage to using sod over seed is that you will have an instant lawn. Sod is a great idea for those who desire a lush, green lawn without the wait. Using sod can be a good idea if you have kids that need a place to play soon, or pets that would disturb a seeded area. In Vancouver and Portland, we are able to install sod any time of year.

Sprinkler Systems

J’s Custom Landscaping installs only the highest quality sprinkler systems and the easiest to use controllers. We exclusively use Rain Bird and Hunter products that are only available to professional installers. These are the top two brands in the industry. Rain Bird and Hunter both carry one of the best warranties on the market, which gives you a long-term, cost-effective sprinkler system.

Water Conservation features that are available for your sprinkler system includes:

Low Precipitation Rate Nozzles: These nozzles put out water slower so it has more time to soak in, thus encouraging deeper roots for your grass. The deeper the grass roots grow the less overall water you will use.
Rain Sensor: Turns off the programming when it is raining outside so you do not waste water. These can be wired or wireless.
In Ground Moisture Sensor: Turns off the programming when the moisture level in the soil is above certain levels. This is more a more accurate sensor than a traditional rain sensor.
Smart Controllers: New controllers that use specifications input from your own yard, such as sunny or shady areas, type of soil, type of plants or lawn, temperature and rainfall. The controller uses all of this data and automatically adjusts the length of time and frequency of watering for those weather characteristics.
